Top 10 Cars for Single Men
By TODD RIDLEY, 11/26/2019
This is an interesting topic, and one that can be tackled in many ways. Should this top-ten list be for cars that single men can use to get dates? That seems a little stereotypical. Should it be cars that single men can use to haul around sports gear? Short sighted probably.
Single men. I was single once. And I’m imagining now what kind of cars were best for me when I was single and a grown adult. This is an interesting topic and one that can be tackled in many ways. Should this top-ten list be for cars that single men can use to get dates? That seems a little stereotypical. Should it be cars that single men can use to haul around sports gear? Short-sighted probably.
Let’s start with what it probably doesn’t mean: very large cars, large SUVs with 3rd rows, minivans and practical cars. What it probably means is smaller, sportier; think cars you should drive while you’re single that are fun, but not practical once you’re a family guy.
So this list is written with a bent towards that thought. These cars are fun to drive, many are not very practical, but all are vehicles you’ll want to look back on in your later years and say, “I drove that.”
#10. Cadillac ATS
Base MSRP Range: $38,995 - $50,395
Cadillac has had mild success with the ATS Coupe. Introduced during the small and mid-sized crossover craze (that Cadillac is scrambling to catch up to), the Cadillac ATS Coupe has seen mediocre sales, but rave reviews from editors and drivers alike.
Continuing with Cadillac’s angular, arrow architecture, the 2019 ATS Coupe, with just two doors, sumptuous appointments, sporty and aggressive stance all add up to a cool car for a single guy. Features and options include HID headlamps/Adaptive Forward Lighting/LED vertical light signatures, Leather seating surfaces with 12-way driver adjustable power front seats, plus 2-way power lumbar and 4-way headrest adjustment, Memory Package with two presets for driver seat and exterior mirror settings
#9. Toyota Tacoma
Base MSRP Range: $25,700 - $42,810
Starting with the third (and current) generation, the Toyota Tacoma has gone through a metamorphosis. From that of a utilitarian truck to that of a trendy hauler featured in ski, biking, and extreme sports. Suddenly the Tacoma is everywhere. Its looks are associated with ski sports stars and adventure travelers. If you’re a single guy and have anything to haul or enjoy sports that require equipment, the 2019 Toyota Tacoma is a good bet.
The Tacoma comes in 5 trims with options for single, crew and dual cabs. Technology and luxury feature options include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and auto headlights, rear parking assist sonar and Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).
#8. Range Rover Evoque
Base MSRP Range: $41,800 - $54,300
On the smaller end of the Range Rover lineup, yet not The smallest, is the head-turning and masculine Evoque. Range Rover introduced this vehicle in England by awarding it to Princess Anne’s daughter in 2013, and it’s angular looks are befitting a single gentleman as well.
The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is as packed with technology and luxury as its name is long. Adaptive Xenon headlights with LED Signature, 14-Way Windsor Leather Electric front seats with Memory and Massage, Full Windsor Leather interior, Satin Brushed Aluminum trim finisher, Range Rover’s InControl™ Touch Pro Navigation, and 10" Capacitive Touch-screen, and Meridian™ Surround Sound 825W with 16 speakers plus subwoofer.
#7. Mazda Miata
Base MSRP Range: $25,730 - $34,995
An alternative to the convertible version of our #1 pick, the 2019 Mazda Miata is on our list for one reason: When else will an adult man be able to have this much fun with a tiny car? It better be before he settles down with a family. I suppose he may buy this car after the kids are gone, but even with just a wife or partner in the car, it may prove too tight.
Available in 4 distinctive trims, including a 30th-anniversary edition, the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata has worn well in its time on the planet. And it comes packed with features and tech including the MAZDA CONNECT™ Infotainment System with 7" full-color touch screen, Multifunction Commander Control, Infotainment system voice command, HD Radio™ with Aha™, Pandora®, Stitcher™ internet radio integration, and SMS text message audio delivery and reply.
#6. Ram 1500
Base MSRP Range: $31,795 - $59,385
For the single man, a top 10 list without a pickup truck would be just wrong. Having said that, we’re not simply picking any old pickup here. Popular Mechanics calls the 2019 Ram 1500 the “Most Technologically-Packed Truck On The Planet.” Wow. Most surprisingly is how well the truck works with mobile devices like tablets and smartphones.
Winning Truck Trend’s Pickup of the Year award for 2019, this truck is stylish and easily our favorite in any list of pickups. Ram has continued with its aggressive, yet curvy and high-end, styling of the exterior and interior of the Ram 1500. It also is available in many configurations and trims, from the sexy Limited to the graphics and striking Rebel, to the utilitarian Tradesman. It’s all here for the single man.
#5. Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe
Base MSRP Range: $47,300 - $81,800
Crossovers are popular with everyone, so we thought our top 10 list for single men needed another option besides the Evoque. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe is a small crossover that delivers in style, tech, and luxury, and isn’t too big to put off someone who hasn’t started a family yet.
The smaller, sportier version of Mercedes’ smallest crossover, the GLC Coupe slims down the rear and c-pillars of the popular CUV to give the machine a more aggressive and distinctive look. With limited headroom in the rear seats because of this, the GLC may be better for hauling dogs back there rather than humans or children.
The 2019 GLC Coupe is packed with tech and luxury to boot: COMAND navigation with 8.4-inch screen and Mercedes’ famous touchpad controller, AMG Head-Up Display, 14-way power driver seat with memory, Heated front seats and Dual-zone automatic climate control.
#4. Ford Mustang
Base MSRP Range: $26,395 - $67,135
The renowned Ford Mustang has been a dream car for young boys since its introduction in 1965, and in its sixth generation in a whopping 55 years, the Mustang is something to behold.
For our single man who may want to rock a Sportster without the price tag of a Porsche, the 2019 Ford Mustang is a great option starting in just the mid $20s. The bang you get for the buck is impressive: Rear-View Camera, LED Headlamps with LED Signature Lighting, Intelligent Access with Push Button Start, Dual Bright Exhaust with Rolled Tips Details, SYNC® 3, Nine (9) Speaker Stereo System, Selectable Drive Modes with Toggle switches, 18-Inch Machined-face Aluminum Wheels with High Gloss Ebony Black Painted Pockets.
#3. BMW X1
Base MSRP Range: $34,950 - $36,950
Now in its second generation, the 2019 BMW X1 features BMW’s new interior and exterior architecture; bold, sweeping folds in the sheet metal that give it a more aggressive stance, updated front end with BMW’s new large, beautiful grille, chunky, off-road-looking lower side panels for off-roading, and a tapered, tailored end.
Inside the BMW is just the right size for a single man. The X1 features the wide-screen interactive display and utilizes BMW’s funky little mouse for its telematics system. Beautifully appointed seats and the dashboard will round out a luxurious experience.
#2. Kia Niro
Base MSRP Range: $23,490 - $32,150
The Kia Niro is one of our favorites for 2019. Just different enough to turn heads, the wagon is a good fit for the single man who wants some utility, but the tech and sportiness of an advanced, brand new car.
When looking at it at first glance, there’s nothing earth-shattering about the styling; The vehicle has pleasing lines, large, expressive tail lamps, and a tailored front end. It’s the fact that this is clearly a sports wagon that turns those noggins. And it’s a satisfying feeling.
When getting into the 2019 Niro, you feel like it’s a different vehicle too. Tailored, fit, smart. The thick, chunky steering wheel reminds you of a Volvo. The wagon doesn’t disappoint in the tech area either. LED Daytime Running Lights and Fog Lights, Cloth/Leather Seat Trim w/ Heated Front Seats, Black High-Gloss Interior Accents and Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror, Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) round out some popular standard features and options.
#1. Porsche 911
Base MSRP Range: $91,100 - $190,700
The Dream: It may be cliched to have this be on our list let alone be number 1, but it’s clear: if there’s any time to drive a Porsche 911 in a man’s life, it’s when he’s single, before dating, marrying or starting a family. The tight quarters, limited cargo space, low profile, and extremely high cost takes this car out of the equation for most men. If you’re single and thinking about this, and have the means to lease or buy, for heaven's sake do it. Do it, man!
This eponymous vehicle will make you happy to be alive. The looks alone harken back to Porsche’s history in design and racing, yet the 2019 Porsche 911 will thrill with updated styling cues and technology that will amaze. Features include Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+), Porsche Comfort Access, BOSE® Surround Sound System, Seat Ventilation as well as Heating, Lane Keep Assist (LKA, Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).
